ABOUT THE PROJECT
This family in Briarcliff came to our team to transform their existing basement into several spaces that the whole family could enjoy. Redesigned for entertaining friends, hobbies and relaxing, this basement now includes a wet bar, gaming area, reading nook (or a fun napping space) and separate TV and sitting areas. For a basement, it feels incredibly light and airy, but also has some good contrast throughout.
Perhaps my favorite feature in the whole basement is the nook. The custom built sliding doors capture your attention; I love that the sliding hardware is hidden at all times for a clean design that doesn’t hint at all to a barn door. The challenge was to provide additional seating options for when the family was entertaining without creating clutter and adding to storage. So the team really got creative and designed three rolling boxes that could double as extra seating but easily stowed away inside the nook for a comfy nap or reading space. Finished with accent wallpaper, functional shelving and Edison-bulb sconces for soft lighting.
